At the State Theatre, enjoy food, wine and a film about a former Modestan’s search for answers.
That film, along with performances by comedian Howie Mandel, classic rock’s America, Pink Martini, Norman Foote, Tower of Power and more highlight the entertainment events set in the Modesto region for the week of Feb. 4-10.
“Felix Austria!”
The documentary “Felix Austria!” features a former Modesto man’s journey to reach the source of a correspondence, the last heir of the Holy Roman Emperors, Archduke Otto von Habsburg. The movie will play at the State Theatre with a food and wine reception, discussion and post-screening Q&A session moderated by Matthew Emerzian.
Felix Etienne-Edouard Pfeifle, born Brian Pfeifle, is a graduate of Beyer High School and the subject of the film. A press release from distributor Indiepix Films forwarded by Pfeifle calls him “an exquisite dandy, a consummate gentleman and an expert on Viennese aesthetics, architecture and aristocracy.”
After Pfeifle inherits a box of correspondence between the archduke and a man named Herbert Hinkel, he travels to the palaces of Vienna. He also feels the “tug of home” in Modesto, according to the release. His father suffers from Huntington’s disease, which Pfeifle has a 50% chance of inheriting.
“Director Christine Beebe’s feature film debut is an unforgettable, unique exploration of destiny, dreams and identity that transcends place and time,” the release said.
The movie, released in 2019, was set to play at the State in 2020 but was canceled due to the pandemic, according to an email from Pfeifle.
